Allen Dobson, MD, Receives Lifetime Achievement Award in Family Medicine

CONCORD, N.C., December 9, 2004—The North Carolina Academy of Family Physicians (NCAFP) has awarded L. Allen Dobson, Jr. M.D. its 2004 Lifetime Achievement Award. The presentation was made during the organization’s annual meeting held last week in Asheville. Dr. Dobson is President and CEO of Cabarrus Family Medicine, a multi-clinic family medicine and primary care group he founded in 1993.

The award is bestowed on individual physicians who demonstrate and pursue a life-long commitment to the specialty of family medicine. The NCAFP is the largest specialty medical association in North Carolina, representing over 2,600 family physicians, educators and residents.

“We are all very proud of this singular honor bestowed upon Dr. Dobson by his professional peers throughout our state,” said Dari Caldwell, PhD and chief executive officer at NorthEast Medical Center. “His demonstrated leadership, innovation and passion on behalf of family medicine and healthcare in general affirms him as a most deserving recipient of this special honor.”

Long active in organized medicine, Dr. Dobson was recognized for his unwavering commitment and passion for the specialty and his tireless work with the NC Medicaid program of which many patients rely. NCAFP President, Dr. Conrad L. Flick, cited Dobson’s work as the ultimate example of community involvement and service as a physician.

“His work has brought us more family physicians, innovations in the management of Medicaid services, and the improvement of countless lives across North Carolina,” commented Dr. Flick.

The award is one of many recognitions Dobson has received from the Academy over the years. He was named North Carolina’s Family Physician of the Year in 1992 and recognized for Distinguished Service to the specialty in both 2002 and 2003. He served as the organization’s president in 1998-99, and currently presides as one of its delegates to the national association congress.
