Cabarrus Family Medicine Offers Scholarship to Local High Schools

March 20, 2007- As a contribution to local schools and the community, Cabarrus Family Medicine is offering a $1000 scholarship to one exemplary graduating senior from each of the six area high schools, including A.L. Brown High School, Central Cabarrus High School, Concord High School, Jay M. Robinson High School, Mt. Pleasant High School, and Northwest Cabarrus High School.

This is the third year of the annual CFM scholarship program. According to Dr. Allen Dobson, CFM President and CEO, Cabarrus Family Medicine began the program “to invest in our community’s future leaders and volunteers.”

The $1000 scholarship is both academically and community-service based. Each scholarship will be awarded to a student with a minimum 3.5 unweighted GPA who wishes to attend a 4-year higher learning institution in North Carolina.

According to Dr. Dobson, “We are not looking for someone who necessarily wants to go into the medical field, but we are looking for someone who is interested in improving the lives of others.”

To apply, interested students must submit an application obtained from their school’s guidance counselor and several letters of recommendation. They also must write an essay describing why he or she is the person that Dr. Dobson described in his statement.

The scholarship is renewable for one year, provided the student continues to be academically successful and continues to be community-service oriented.

Completed application packets must be mailed directly to Cabarrus Family Medicine and postmarked no later than April 20, 2007. The mailing address is Cabarrus Family Medicine, Atten: Jannette Kluttz, 270 Copperfield Blvd., Suite 201, Concord, NC  28025. A preaddressed envelope is included in each packet.

By 3:00 pm on April 25, 2007, each applicant will receive a confirmation e-mail to acknowledge receipt of the submitted application packet. Applicants will have 24 hours from that time to contact 704-721-2091 with discrepancies relating to submission of an application.

The Cabarrus Family Medicine College Scholarship Selection Committee will select the candidates to be awarded the Cabarrus Family Medicine College Scholarships. A representative from the committee will announce each winner during the Awards Program at each of the six area high schools.

Dr. Dobson said, “Since our inception 24 years ago, we have always placed a priority on community involvement and community service. We are pleased and proud to put our servant leadership into action by presenting this scholarship to local students.”
